Nicole MacDonald
Owner/ Cosmetologist
Nicole "Nikki" MacDonald is the third-generation owner of Heads of the Harbor, continuing a proud family tradition of excellence in hair and beauty. Having grown up in the salon, Nicole spent her summers learning the craft from a young age and formally apprenticed in Cosmetology while earning her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maine. Her deep-rooted passion for the industry, combined with hands-on experience, has given her a unique perspective on both the art and business of the salon experience.
Recently completing her Masters in Adult and Continuing Education, Nicole is excited to bring together her love for teaching and her commitment to helping people feel confident and beautiful. Whether mentoring up-and-coming stylists or connecting with clients in the chair, Nicole leads with warmth, creativity, and a dedication to lifelong learning.
Lora Rinow
Owner/ Cosmetologist
Lora Rinow, a master stylist and expert colorist, has been channeling her talents toward making people feel and look beautiful for over 40 years. She graduated from Mr. Bernard's School of Design in 1984 and started out her Cosmetology career working for her mother, the original owner of Heads of The Harbor. Years later she took over at the helm and shaped Heads of the Harbor into what it is today: a welcoming and vibrant family salon and spa that provides quality professional services and outstanding customer service. Recently Lora passed over the family business to her daughter Nikki. Lora continues to work at the salon, taking care of her regular clients and providing the team with her technical expertise and mentorship.
Nicole Rice
Aesthetician
Nicole grew up in Boothbay and graduated from Boothbay High School in 2016. She attended Spa Tech in Boston and became a licensed Aesthetician in 2024. Nicole has been working in the service industry for years, where she’s developed a strong work ethic and good people skills. Nicole's passion for skincare began in high school, since then she continues to grow her knowledge in the Aesthetics industry. She enjoys making people feel confident in their skin.
Avery Barter
Cosmetology Apprentice
Avery grew up in Boothbay and graduated from Boothbay High School in 2024. She has been working in the service industry for a few years and has decided to focus her career on Cosmetology. Avery will be apprenticing and learning various services around the salon. She looks forward to getting hands-on experience and connecting with clients. She can’t wait to get her license and start her Cosmetology career.
Baxter
Our resident good boy🐾
Baxter is our beloved golden retriever and the heart of the salon. With his wagging tail, gentle eyes, and calming presence, Baxter brings a special kind of joy to our space. Whether you're here for a fresh new look or just need a moment of comfort, Baxter is always ready with a cuddle, a paw, or a soft nuzzle.
He’s our official emotional support pup and in-house entertainer—offering snuggles, smiles, and the occasional belly flop nap in the sun. For those who love dogs, he’s a highlight of the visit. For those who need a little extra comfort, he’s always nearby.
